Toe- pieman that the final connections have been made between .Greenville and Kinston, so that the long distance ser- ice of the Henderson Telephone Go. is now in practical operatioujto Morehead City, and all intermediate points. Con struction ou this line was begun at Spring Hope last July and since that time from one to three crews have been in the field pushing the work forward. he main line constructed to complete this connection covers a distance of about 220 miles, and is double metallic circuit throughontr one for through business touching important points, tho other for local busiuess between Exchanges. In addition some 50 miles of blanch lines have been built. To construct this 250 miles of line has re quired over 8000 Juuiper poles, 1000 miles of copper wire, 32000 Insulators, and pins, 8000 cross arms and 24000 bolts, and to transport this material 70 cars were called into service. Over 100 men have been steadily em ployed for eight mouths, and about one and one-half miles of completed line was finished each working dav. The work of constructing these lines is an undertaking of considerable magnitude and must require a vast amount of capital. Great credit is due the Companies lor their efforts in connecting up with first class long distance hues so large a scope of territory m so short a time, over 1200 miles of toll Hues have been built in the last six years. ine main line of the Company's now extends fiom Chase City, Va., to Morehead City, N. C, affording direct communi cation withjoyer 50Q J subscribers in 35 exchanges. The principal points reached by the line just completed are Rocky Mount, Greenville, Tarboro, Scotland Neck, Wilson, Washington Aydeh. Kinston, Dover, Trenton, New lieru, Bayboio and Morehead Cityk A cable is now being laid from M'oie head City to connect Beaufort with the system. The long distance service heretofore instituted, aud operated has been found invaluable for its Convenience and the facilitating of busiuess, and the n6w lines just opened will simply be of so much additional benefit to tne business interests of the territory covered by the Henderson aud the Carolina and Virginia Telephone Companies. 6th. and 26th.
